A Day in the Life: Landscape Irrigation in Muskoka
Working in landscape irrigation can be an exciting and fulfilling career, offering the opportunity to work outdoors, be a part of a fun team and enhance the health and beauty of some gorgeous Muskoka properties.
The day always begins early, with staff arriving at EE Headquarters as the sun rises. We typically start the day by checking the schedule and reviewing the tasks on our list. We prepare the equipment and tools, load them onto the trucks, and set off to the job site. We usually have some sweet playlists queued up to get us inspired for the day ahead!
Once the team arrives at the job site, we begin the dirty work. When installing a new irrigation system, the first step is to get the system flagged out and ready to run trenchβs throughout the property. We use a combination of hand tools and machinery to dig trenches for all the water lines and communication wires. This can take anywhere from one to 4+ days depending on the size of the property and land type. The Canadian shield is often a major player in this step.
After several hours of work, the team takes a well-deserved break to rest and refuel. Sometimes we take the opportunity for lunch at a local restaurant (mostly for the air conditioning). We return to work, continuing with the dig from the morning. With the trenches and sprinkler locations in place, we begin installing the various components of the irrigation system, and yes, sometimes it involves jumping in the lake!
As the work day draws to a close, the team begins to wrap up. We clean up the job site, return tools and equipment, and ensure that everything is in good working order. We review the day's progress together and plan for the next day's work.
At Earth Elements, we're so grateful to have a team of dedicated and passionate professionals who work tirelessly to enhance the beauty and functionality of Muskoka's landscapes.
