Spring Lawn Care 101- Getting your Grass off to the Best Start

Spring Lawn Care 101

Now, more than ever, our homes have become increasingly important. It is where a lot of us are working, teaching, and playing.  As the weather begins to improve- we are eager to get outdoors and enjoy our properties.

Lawns make up a big portion of our properties.  These wide-open green spaces are the perfect places to lounge or engage in a friendly game.  This year, these spaces have become even more important as we are urged to spend more time in the comfort and safety of our homes.

As Canadians, we take great pride in our lawns wanting to have a space that is not just free from weeds but contains lush, healthy grass.   However; winter takes its toll on our properties leaving us with spaces that are patchy, dead or frost damaged, creating areas where weeds can sneak in.

Perhaps as you’ve wandered around your yard, you’ve noticed mounds of dirt, weeds cropping up, or brown patches of lawn.   If addressed early, these challenges can be easily resolved leaving you with a beautiful lawn to enjoy all season long.

Earth Elements is here to help.  Our team has the tools and strategies to get your commercial or residential property off to the best start.

For those people who are wanting to do this on their own, we are going to provide you with a series of blogs that will walk you through each of the stages of spring lawn care.

Let’s start with the basics:

When it comes to lawn care, the first thing most people latch onto is a fertilizer program.   In fact, you may already have been contacted by your local lawn care provider offering you their full-season program.

Here is the thing.  Fertilizers are effective, if and only if, you’ve paid attention to the ground that your grass is growing into.  You wouldn’t build a home on a faulty foundation, so why would you throw on fertilizer without paying attention to the soil?   So, if you’re doing your own lawn care this season, we recommend investing a bit of time taking care of the ground that your grass will grow into.

At Earth Elements, we have a four-step spring start-up program.  The first three steps will help establish that strong foundation and the final one will add in those additional nutrients to ensure that your lawn thrives.

Our 4 Step Spring Startup Program:

Step 1: Aeration

Step 2: Top Dressing and Soil Testing

Step 3: Overseeding

Step 4: Fertilizer

This four-step process is the key to healthy lawns providing them turf with the nutrients, moisture, and oxygen it needs for healthy root growth.  The result is beautiful green grass that will be resistant to weeds and pests.
